Following a meeting between Prime Minister Jean Castex and stakeholders in the mountain sector, ski resort lifts will remain closed in February, with no reopening date set, Matignon announced on Monday. Here is the Covid update…
Prime Minister Jean Castex stated that “the evolution of the health situation does not allow us at this stage to reopen the ski lifts”, while reminding that there was “no trend towards a general reopening” in other European countries.
This Monday, the number of hospitalizations and ICU admissions related to Covid-19 continues to rise, according to the latest figures from the French Public Health Agency. There were 27,874 virus patients hospitalized, an increase of 301 compared to the previous day, with 1,750 new admissions in the last 24 hours.
4,347 new cases of infections were reported by health authorities, and 456 deaths were recorded, bringing the total to 3,201,461 cases and 76,512 deaths in hospitals and nursing homes since the beginning of the epidemic in France. The test positivity rate was 6.7%, a very slight decrease from the previous day (6.8%).

The Government is continuing its efforts to combat the epidemic by further strengthening sanitary measures (flights outside the EU banned except for “compelling” reasons, closure of non-food shopping centers with a surface area greater than 20,000 m2, etc.) rather than opting for a third national lockdown.
