Let’s be clear, we are far from taking the current epidemic lightly, but the level of nervousness it seems to generate is nevertheless somewhat perplexing.
The results of an IFOP survey showing the level of concern among the French regarding the coronavirus have reached record numbers: 61% are worried, whereas in July 2009, at the height of the H1-N1 flu (at least 150,000 deaths across 125 countries, including 86 in France), this figure was only 35%!
Conclusion from François Kraus, the director of IFOP’s political department, in light of the survey results: “the epidemic of fear has reached an unparalleled level in 15 years”.
