Coronavirus: Christian Estrosi strengthens health safety measures

Latest News

On the sidelines of election day, and beyond the result, which, even if very satisfactory, requires a second round of voting, Christian Estrosi is 100% committed to managing the crisis caused by the so-called Coronavirus epidemic.

“I will not take part in the election campaign between the two rounds,” he stated in a press release.

The outgoing and future mayor of Nice also announced new measures to strengthen health security:

– Playgrounds for children, as well as parks and gardens that are not pedestrian pathways, will be closed until further notice.
– To limit movement, staff from non-essential city and Metropolitan services are encouraged to work from home through telework. 5000 employees are affected.

– Only essential services for our communities’ life: notably, Health and vulnerable individuals, Security, Transport, Cleanliness, Collection, Water and Sanitation, Civil Status, Roads, Risk Management, Central Kitchen will be maintained.

– Starting tomorrow, we will organize with professional organizations the collection of foodstuffs and goods to be handed over to charitable associations.

– The terraces and stalls of still open businesses (bakeries, tobacconists…) are removed, as well as non-food markets.

– The city’s call platform, specially dedicated to managing the health crisis, will be maintained. I remind you that the number is 04 97 13 56 00. It has answered more than 3000 calls since its creation.

– Schools will be open for the children of health personnel, as well as law enforcement, rescue, and transport workers.

– The ski resorts of Auron, Isola 2000, and Saint-Dalmas le Selvage are closed until further notice in agreement with the President of the departmental council on the resorts that concern them.

There are urgent decisions to be made at the municipal level. I particularly wish that we could create a solidarity fund through the Communal Center for Social Actions, for the benefit of traders, artisans, entrepreneurs, and independents who, by the end of this month, will find themselves in precarious situations and for whom partial unemployment will have no impact. Furthermore, we will also consider, if the Government allows us, the reduction of municipal taxes.

I once again urge the people of Nice to exercise the utmost caution by avoiding contacts and travel. I want them to know that I will mobilize all municipal and metropolitan resources, whether economic, social, health, or security, so that we can, once again, come out stronger from this crisis.
