Two days after the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, it was the turn of Prime Minister Edouard Philippe to speak and announce new restrictive measures.
Moreover, the Prime Minister announced – as noted by the prefecture in a statement – the closure from Saturday midnight of public places that are not essential to the life of the country, including cinemas, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and non-essential shops.
Grocery stores, food markets, pharmacies, gas stations, banks, tobacconists, and newsstands will remain open. Essential public services will also remain open, as well as urban transportation. Places of worship will also be open, but ceremonies and gatherings will be postponed.
Greater discipline in behavior is being requested from the French to avoid worsening a situation that is deteriorating day by day. The announcement was made by the Director-General of Health Jérôme Salomon on Saturday evening: the health situation is in phase 3. The effects of the virus show a significant increase: 4499 positive cases leading to 91 deaths in France. In the Alpes-Maritimes, the situation is less severe: 51 cases, 8 more than yesterday, and 1 death.
