Since Friday, a decree has authorized prefects to extend the obligation to wear masks to the streets – an obligation that the government still refuses to mandate on a national scale.
“Quick and significant efforts are necessary,” stated the Directorate General of Health, because from July 21 to 27, the number of daily cases is “increasing and above 1,000,” with “an upward acceleration this week.” The national weekly incidence rate has surpassed the vigilance threshold of 10 per 100,000 inhabitants. As a reminder, it was 5.7 per 100,000 three weeks ago.
The slow resurgence of the virus continues, despite recent safety measures: mandatory mask-wearing in enclosed public spaces since July 19, the closure of some beaches at night, and widespread testing at airports from 16 countries…
Finally, testing has increased significantly. On Thursday evening, in its weekly report, Santé publique France announced that 439,000 people were tested during the week of July 20 to 26, which means 677 people per 100,000 inhabitants. At the end of March, during the peak of the epidemic, it was 100,000 people per week.
