The new coronavirus has claimed 437 more lives in 24 hours in France, bringing the total to 23,293 deaths since March 1, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) announced on Monday. They also reported a continued decrease in the number of people hospitalized, particularly in intensive care.
Out of all the deaths, 14,497 occurred in hospitals and 8,796 in social and medico-social establishments, mainly in nursing homes.
The number of people hospitalized for their coronavirus infection dropped to 28,055, which is 162 fewer than on Sunday. Intensive care units were treating 4,608 COVID-19 patients on Monday, 74 fewer than the day before.
