France has entered its third week of lockdown to prevent the spread of the epidemic caused by the coronavirus, and the human toll of the health crisis continues to increase.

The Director General of Health, Jรฉrรดme Salomon, speaks of a “totally unprecedented situation in the history of French medicine.”

In the Alpes-Maritimes, the numbers are still increasing: 6 new deaths have been added to the previous 23. These are those who died in the hospital.

149 are hospitalized, of which 41 are in intensive care.


At the national level, according to the latest official figures released this Wednesday:

4,032 people have died, an increase of 509 in twenty-four hours, from Tuesday to Wednesday, marking the highest increase since the start of the epidemic.

6,017 patients are in serious condition requiring intensive care, hence placed in intensive care units. That’s 452 more people than yesterday (the last daily report was 458 admissions to intensive care between Monday and Tuesday).

24,639 people are currently hospitalized for a Covid-19 infection, which is 1,882 more than at the time of the last report, Tuesday evening โ€” and 167 in Overseas France.

56,989 people have tested positive for the coronavirus through PCR testing since March 1st, which is 4,861 new positive cases since Tuesday โ€” Jรฉrรดme Salomon specified that more than 20,000 tests are now being performed each day.

More than 10,000 people have been discharged after recovering from Covid-19 hospitalization, including more than 1,000 in the last 24 hours.
