The Bank of France has just announced that it will include CSR in the criteria considered in the rating of companies. The prestigious institution, whose expert opinion is highly regarded, thus highlights the importance of taking into account the responsible commitment of companies to assign a different value to ratings.
This innovation is indeed noteworthy, as it proves that the CSR of French companies corresponds to a fundamental demand from entrepreneurs, who want a positive relationship with the social fabric and are prepared to submit to an objective arbiter, when it is serious and also serves the local economy.
It is rare that in France, where the trend is to “nationalize” and “judicialize” everything, the players themselves define flexible, progressive, and consensual improvements.
The Bank of France, which is undertaking the monumental task of rating 250,000 companies, contributes to the idea that CSR is an essential factor in analyzing a company’s performance.
It is still too early to celebrate victory as the proportion of CSR-related data considered is not yet known. However, it further opens the path to reflecting on new levers of competitiveness, including sustainable development and responsibility.
