Université Côte d’Azur, through its UCAJedi Initiative of Excellence, has just awarded 10 “UCA Champions” excellence scholarships to students from the second year of their Bachelor’s degree, showing merit in their studies.
This initiative reflects Université Côte d’Azur’s commitment to making support for equal opportunities one of its priority actions. The scholarships are granted for the entire duration of their studies up to the Master’s level.
For students, success often lies in the ability to pursue their university courses in a stable material environment. Still, too many high-potential students have to worry about making a living while also attending their studies.
Indeed, according to the student life observatory in 2017:
- 46% of students need to work to finance their studies.
- 17.7% of students who work say it has “a negative impact” on their results.
- For one in three students, this activity is “a source of stress, of nervous tension.”
This constraint affects academic success but also deprives this population of a full, rich, and diverse student life.
That is why Université Côte d’Azur, through its UCAjedi Initiative of Excellence (IDEX), has made support for equal opportunities one of its priority actions. As of 2021, IDEX supports ten deserving students in their studies starting from the second year of the Bachelor’s degree through a “UCA Champion” excellence scholarship.
A first group of ten students
This scholarship is intended for students enrolled in the second year of the Bachelor’s degree at Université Côte d’Azur and is based on academic excellence and the student’s social situation. To apply, one must be a recipient of a social criteria scholarship (levels 5, 6, or 7) and express their motivation. The 2021 campaign ended on January 18, 2021.
A group of ten scholarship recipients was selected at the beginning of March following a two-step process involving Université Côte d’Azur’s University Research Schools and then the IDEX office. The jury ensured parity and also a distribution that covers all scientific disciplinary fields.
The “UCA Champion” scholarship will be granted to the students of this 2021 group for the entire duration of their studies up to the completion of their Master’s degree (subject to passing exams and maintaining excellent results throughout their university studies).
A new selection campaign will be launched at the beginning of September 2021. This support from IDEX for success represents an investment of €56,000 in 2021, and over five years, nearly €570,000 will be invested in these deserving profiles.
