Following the measures taken to combat the coronavirus pandemic in France and Nice, Christian Estrosi seeks to accelerate the vaccination campaign throughout the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolitan area. The mayor of Nice visited the Palais des Expositions vaccination center in Nice this Saturday to check the progress of the doctors in their mission.

Last Thursday, Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice and president of the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis, announced during a press briefing via videoconference, an acceleration of the vaccination on the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis this weekend.

Indeed, Health Minister Olivier Véran confirmed to the mayor of Nice that if the metropolis was able to organize and conduct it, he would provide 12,000 vaccines for a 48-hour vaccination operation this weekend.

Thus, on Saturday and Sunday, 12,000 people will be able to be vaccinated across the metropolitan territory thanks to the responsiveness of the public health, environmental, and risk management agency of the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis and the mobilization of 150 volunteers (staff, elected officials, mayors of the metropolis, 30 doctors, and 70 nurses).

Here are the words of Mayor Christian Estrosi on the current situation:

It was a necessity to prioritize areas that have seen their incidence rates rise rapidly. The Health Minister contacted me on Thursday to inform me that 12,000 vaccine doses would be made available to us, including 4,000 Pfizer/BioNtech. Across all our vaccination sites, we have 500 staff and volunteers whom I thank for their availability. This mobilization is absolutely fantastic and will allow us, between this morning and tomorrow evening, to vaccinate 12,000 people, probably a record in France.

Thanks to the 500 medical personnel mobilized throughout the metropolis, including about a hundred at the Palais des Expositions site, along with nearly 34,000 people already vaccinated and 12,000 planned in less than 48 hours, the metropolis will have 46,000 people who have received at least a first dose and 13,000 who have received both. The mayor of Nice prioritizes individuals over 75 years old as planned since the launch of the vaccination campaign, followed by those over 50 years old.

Christian Estrosi has also planned a plan to continue this acceleration of the vaccination campaign starting next Monday. “I made sure that with this acceleration, we would have the guarantee of regular supply of Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca vaccines to ensure that by the end of March, all individuals over 75 will have been vaccinated, and we will have already significantly engaged those over 65 and over 50 subsequently.”

A great success as a result

Doctors and medical staff hope this acceleration will be a success in the fight against the epidemic that significantly affects Nice and its surroundings. “We have already done a few hundred vaccinations this morning. Over the weekend, we will do around 4,000. So far, we have encountered no incidents related to vaccination. There is great satisfaction from the people of Nice coming for vaccination. The demand is very high. We have already exceeded 100,000 registrations on the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis platform.” explains Hervé Cael, emergency doctor.

Christian Estrosi has anticipated the health situation from the start, making organization easier for doctors and medical staff. “For a few weeks now, the system has been sized to carry out 50,000 vaccinations per week. We have experienced vaccine supply issues, which meant the system wasn’t entirely full. Here at the Palais des Expositions, teams are spread over two levels: the ground floor and the first floor. The system could ramp up with the unused booths and even be full starting this weekend.”

The visit of the mayor of the city of Nice ends with a round of honor among the patients waiting for their turn to get vaccinated. Christian Estrosi congratulates them for their contribution in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The mayor has high expectations for this acceleration in the next 48 hours.
