The day before, 17,565 new positive cases had been recorded, far from the target set by the government for mid-December, a few weeks ago.
The positivity rate of those tested stands at 5.2%, compared to 5.6% the previous day. It was 6.4% last December 8, when a new method of accounting for this key indicator was introduced.
The number of patients in intensive care or critical care units (which accommodate the most severely affected) was almost stable compared to Saturday, at 2,745, against 2,718 the previous day. Admissions in the last 24 hours numbered 91 (compared to 123 on Saturday).
In total, hospitals had 24,961 Covid-19 patients, compared to 24,819 on Saturday. Admissions in the last 24 hours amounted to 599, compared to more than a thousand (1,004) on Saturday.
Public Health France announced 131 deaths over the last 24 hours (compared to 190 on Saturday), bringing the total number of deaths since the beginning of the epidemic to 60,549.
