The acceleration of the epidemic has continued in France since the beginning of the week. While the number of cases is steadily increasing, the number of hospitalizations remains stable.
The Directorate General of Health announced in its daily update that 1,695 new Covid-19 infections were recorded within 24 hours. This marks a first since May 30. In total, the country has recorded 194,029 confirmed cases since the start of the epidemic. While the number of hospitalizations related to the virus remains stable (137 people yesterday compared to 139 the previous day), the number of patients admitted to intensive care is decreasing, with 15 new admissions in the last 24 hours.
Overall, in France, 30,305 people have died from coronavirus-related causes. The DGS is especially emphasizing its prevention message, reminding the public that “even on vacation, even in summer, the virus is still actively circulating.” Furthermore, the number of clusters remains very concerning (+19 on Wednesday). To counter this phenomenon, more than 1,200 French municipalities have mandated mask-wearing in high-traffic public areas and outdoors.
