Covid-19: a possible curfew in Nice

Latest News

The Prime Minister Jean Castex will hold a press conference at 5:00 PM on “the implementation of measures to fight against” the Covid-19 epidemic, which continues to progress worryingly across France.

Several new metropolitan areas are expected to be affected by a curfew, six days after the one imposed between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM in eight major cities, as well as Paris and the รŽle-de-France region.

Will Nice be the 9th metropolitan area to undergo a curfew? In recent days, the negative numbers have been increasing despite the Mayor of Nice’s calls to the population to enhance preventive measures.

Indeed, the figures provided by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) concerning the incidence rate, the positivity rate, and the number of Covid hospitalizations show an alarming progression of the epidemic and are approaching the maximum alert threshold, which could lead to the application of a curfew.

As of October 20th, the agency places the Alpes-Maritimes department in an enhanced alert zone.

The incidence rate (number of positive persons per 100,000 inhabitants) has been increasing since Friday and is now above 124 (the maximum alert rate leading to the imposition of a curfew is based on a rate of 150). Among other concerning numbers, the positivity rate is currently at 10.8%. The number of hospitalizations has also increased, reaching 197 patients, 34 of whom are currently in intensive care throughout the department and in Monaco.
