Covid-19: Fewer than 3,000 patients in intensive care for the first time since January

Despite the reopening of cinemas, theaters, and terraces since May 19th, the epidemic figures continue to decline. The total number of hospitalized patients is at its lowest since October.


Currently, 2,993 people are in critical care due to the coronavirus, whereas there were around 6,000 between mid-April and early May, at the peak of the third wave.

This Sunday, 44 new deaths have been recorded so far, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 82,990 since the beginning of the epidemic, according to data from Santรฉ Publique France.

Signs of the new decline in severe cases observed among patients with the virus include only 43 new admissions to intensive care. As for the number of reported cases, it was 8,541 today, a figure more than a thousand lower than that of last Sunday.

In total, 16,775 Covid patients were hospitalized in France on Sunday (including 199 admitted over the past 24 hours).
