With 157 new deaths in hospitals over the past 24 hours, Covid-19 has now claimed the lives of 64,921 people in France since the beginning of the epidemic. The number of patients hospitalized for Covid-19 stands at 24,458, which is 195 more than on Friday, with 646 new admissions in one day. The number of patients in intensive care or critical care is also slightly up, with 2,632, which is 23 more than on Friday, and 101 new admissions in the past 24 hours.
The positivity rate, which measures the percentage of people testing positive for Covid-19 out of all those tested, increased from 3.8% to 4.6% on Saturday.
The number of new cases recorded over the past 24 hours was 3,466 compared to 19,348 on Friday. During the holiday period, this daily data has varied greatly since mid-December, fluctuating between around 3,000 and more than 21,000. However, it remains far, on average, from the government’s target of reducing to 5,000 cases per day.
