During a visit to the vaccination center at Palais Nikaรฏa, Christian Estrosi spoke about the health situation in the Alpes-Maritimes.
The situation remains very difficult in the Alpes-Maritimes. To effectively combat the spread of COVID-19, a local lockdown has been implemented for the next two weekends. This measure is in addition to the weekday curfew. The coming days will be crucial for observing the potential effectiveness of this approach. As the first responses are awaited, Christian Estrosi visited the vaccination center at Palais Nikaรฏa.
The mayor of the city spoke with residents of Nice before discussing the vaccination strategy in place. โAll individuals over 75 years old registered on the platform will be vaccinated by the end of April,โ announced Christian Estrosi. Next week, 30,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will be delivered to the department. The mayor of Nice wishes to make them available to healthcare professionals under 50 years of age, and those over 50 with comorbidities. The remaining doses will be for โ50-64 year-olds outside of the medical field.โ
Other measures might be implemented
Christian Estrosi was also questioned about the measures implemented within the department. The mayor of Nice does not rule out taking additional measures: โI will listen to the Prime Minister’s address, and I reserve the right to announce additional measures by Friday,โ he said. Closing the Promenade des Anglais could be one of these measures. Additionally, the city of Nice has officially announced the closure of four markets. Considered textile markets, the Ariane, Bon Voyage, Charles Ehrmann, and Moulins markets are required to close starting Friday evening.
Food markets, however, are maintained for now, but monitoring will be conducted on crowd sizes to limit public presence at these sites. Nevertheless, new measures might be announced by Christian Estrosi in the coming hours. This will depend on his reaction to the announcements made by Prime Minister Jean Castex. The latter has notably announced a possible strengthening of measures should the health situation not improve by March 6th. Finally, twenty departments have been placed under enhanced surveillance.
