COVID-19: Nice in Zone of Heightened Alert

Latest News

Last night, the government announced through the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, the classification of the city of Nice as a “reinforced alert zone.” This announcement does not change much in practice regarding the measures already implemented for a week by the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture.

Since yesterday, the government explained at the end of a press conference its intention to classify the departments into three alert levels in response to the spread of the coronavirus: alert zone, reinforced alert zone, and maximum alert zone.
Nice is therefore situated in this second level, which means that the incidence rate is above 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants or 50 cases per 100,000 for people considered at risk.
In practice, this does not add any additional measures to the announcements made over the past two weeks by Christian Estrosi and Bernard Gonzalez.

What the government is asking in these different cities:

  • A limit on gatherings reduced to 1,000 people.
  • The prohibition of major events declared as local or student festivals.
  • No gatherings of more than ten people in public spaces.
  • Partial closure of bars, depending on the hours decided by the prefect, as well as all venues for festive and associative activities.

Among these restrictions, only bars will have to close their doors at 10 PM instead of 12:30 AM starting Monday.
