Are we witnessing the beginning of a seventh wave of Covid-19?

An increase in infections has been noticeable since early June, and in recent days it has even accelerated. This is due to the emergence of two new variants of the Omicron form, BA.4 and BA.5. On June 1st, more than 25,000 new infections were recorded; 20 days later, over 83,000 cases were detected.

For the first time since May 2nd, the weekly average is close to 50,000 cases per day. 95,217 cases were recorded this Tuesday, June 21st, marking a 46% increase compared to last Tuesday.

In the Paca region, the positivity rate increased by 18.9% during the week of June 13th to June 19th. It is in the Alpes-Maritimes that the highest positivity rate in the region is recorded (21.8%). The 06 also has an incidence rate (478) significantly higher than other departments in the region.
