COVID-19: significant increase in contamination cases

Latest News

A first effect of the Christmas holidays? It’s hard to say, but nevertheless, the number of contamination cases has exploded in the past 24 hours, returning to pre-second lockdown levels.

The country has recorded a total of 26,457 new cases of patients affected by the coronavirus. This number has not been this high since November 18 during the second lockdown. While we can reassure ourselves by saying that we must take into account a catch-up of partially reported data from yesterday, the situation remains increasingly concerning on the eve of New Year’s Eve and its planned gatherings with family or friends.

Public Health France reports in its daily report 303 new deaths in hospitals on December 30. Among the good news, the number of patients hospitalized and in intensive care has started to slightly decline.

However, the scientific council observes in a public opinion that an “uncontrolled resurgence” of the epidemic in January cannot be ruled out.

In the Alpes-Maritimes, the ICU bed occupancy rate remains very high (85%) with a slight increase in hospitalizations (eight more people), including 57 in intensive care (four more than yesterday).

As the end-of-year holidays approach, it is more important than ever to respect barrier measures.
