Certainly, the dynamic at the national level is no longer the same as in the spring. But the authorities point to the active circulation of the virus. A “very strong tide” is what we should expect.
The epidemic indicators deteriorated further in 24 hours this Saturday with a new increase in patients in intensive care and, according to the latest figures published by Public Health France, 26,896 new infections. A significant leap forward as, for the first time the previous day, the threshold of 20,000 had been surpassed.
In the last 24 hours, the health authorities also recorded 54 new deaths linked to the coronavirus in hospitals. This brings the total to 32,684, including 21,852 deaths in hospitals.
Below are several figures, provided by the health authorities, which present an overview of the past weeks and a projection for the upcoming ones:
- 1,448: The dynamic at the national level is no longer the same as in the spring, when the number of patients admitted to intensive care doubled every three to four days, reaching 7,000. But it has nonetheless increased from 700 to over 1,448 since mid-September.
- 893: The number of deaths reached 893 last week, compared to 786 and 599 in the two preceding weeks, for a total that now exceeds 32,000 deaths since the start of the epidemic. This increase is not surprising, according to Public Health France, due to the rise in cases “since mid-August 2020.” In the last 24 hours, 62 people have died from Covid-19.
- 17 days: “The increase in virus circulation, particularly among the oldest people, raises concerns about continuing hospitalizations and deaths in the coming weeks,” worries Public Health France. If the trend continues, the number of new patients admitted to intensive care each week “will have doubled in 17 days.”
- 10%: The test positivity rate (the proportion of positive individuals among all those tested) also continues its progression and exceeds 10% for the first time, at 10.4%.
