The number of Covid-19 patients treated in intensive care continues to decrease slowly, as does the positivity rate, but the number of new cases—17,565—continues to rise, according to figures from France’s public health agency on Saturday.
Currently, 2,718 people (including 123 admitted in the last 24 hours) are being treated in intensive care units, compared to 2,764 the day before. The decline has been significant since the second wave’s peak, recorded on November 16 with 4,903 patients in intensive care.
The positivity rate for those tested stands at 5.6%, compared to 5.9% the previous day. It was 6.4% on December 8, when a new method for calculating this key indicator was introduced.
The disease has led to 190 new deaths in hospitals compared to Friday, for a total of 60,418 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in March. The number of people testing positive remains high, with 17,565 new cases in 24 hours, compared to 15,674 the previous day.
