Covid-19 hits a new record to start 2022: no fewer than 271,686 people have tested positive in the past 24 hours, according to the report from Santรฉ publique France released on Tuesday, January 4.
The Minister of Health, Olivier Vรฉran, had announced during the questions to the government that nearly 300,000 new cases had been recorded in the country. The previous record for infections was dated December 31, with 232,000 new infections in 24 hours.
Hospitals continue to admit a growing number of patients, with 20,186 patients hospitalized on Tuesday, compared to 19,606 on Monday, which is 2,881 new admissions in 24 hours, according to figures from Santรฉ publique France.
This trend is also confirmed in critical care units: in total, these units were treating 3,665 patients on Tuesday. The number of patients treated in critical care is approaching that of the second wave (4,903, in 2020).
In 24 hours, hospitals recorded 297 deaths. In total, at least 124,563 people have died from Covid-19 since the start of the epidemic.
