13,406 positive Covid-19 cases were recorded in France this Friday, December 11, according to official figures published by Santรฉ Publique France, a level slightly lower than the previous day (13,750) but still far from the threshold of 5,000 cases per day set initially by the government to lift the lockdown measures on December 15.
The number of severe cases in intensive care has decreased to 2,874. This indicator, closely monitored to assess the pressure on hospital services, went back below the symbolic threshold of 3,000 (2,949) on Thursday. In total, 24,943 patients are hospitalized due to Covid, compared to 25,199 on Thursday.
Additionally, 627 new Covid-related deaths have been recorded, of which 306 occurred in hospitals in the past 24 hours, the rest accounting for deaths in medico-social establishments, notably nursing homes, which are updated twice a week.
Since the start of the epidemic, the death toll stands at at least 57,567, including 39,605 in hospitals (according to Geodes data, SpF gives 39,631).
Finally, the positivity rate (proportion of positive tests compared to the total number of tests conducted) has slightly decreased, dropping to 6.3% from 6.4% the previous day.
