Covid-19: The situation is worsening again in France

Latest News

All indicators tracking the epidemic show an acceleration of the virus circulation in mainland France. The country is witnessing an increase in the spread of the virus with an average of around 1,060 new cases per day since July 22, compared to 560 during the first 21 days of the month.

Eleven additional deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the overall death toll of the epidemic to 30,265, also announced the Directorate General of Health (DGS).

Public Health France (SpF) does not mince words in its weekly bulletin: the figures are bad. For the week of July 20 to 26, the indicators of epidemic resurgence have further worsened: a 54% increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases in the mainland with an incidence rate (number of positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants) rising for all age groups.

Already on Thursday evening, the Directorate General of Health was announcing an “increase in the number of daily cases exceeding 1,000,” as well as a rise in the number of patients in intensive care, for the first time since April 8!

Throughout the territory, the acceleration of the spread of the Sars-CoV-2 is “all the more concerning as it mainly affects young adults, particularly those aged 20-30,” it adds. The incidence rate even reaches 19.5 among the 20-29 age group. Furthermore, more than half of the diagnosed cases are asymptomatic.
