Covid: France in a state of health emergency, no curfew in Nice

Latest News

The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, announced new measures this Wednesday evening to address the worsening health situation related to Covid-19.

A curfew from 9 PM to 6 AM will be imposed in several areas where the health situation is most critical: Île-de-France and the eight metropolitan areas already in maximum alert zones (Lyon, Lille, Toulouse, Saint-Étienne, Grenoble, Aix-Marseille, Toulouse, and Montpellier).

The entire national territory will be placed back under a state of health emergency, coming into effect from Friday to Saturday night at midnight.

This exceptional legal provision allows the Prefect, “when the evolution of the health situation justifies it and solely for the purpose of combating the spread of the virus,” to establish local confinement and therefore “prohibit people from leaving their place of residence.”
