The number of infections continues to rise due to the Omicron variant, “at least three times more contagious” than the Delta strain of the coronavirus, according to Health Minister Olivier Vรฉran.
France is among the countries where the incidence rate is spiking the most: one in 100 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the past week, pushing the incidence to over 1,000, a record.
The explosion of infections continues in France: on the first day of 2022, the country recorded another record rate, with 219,126 new cases.
The number of hospitalizations has also increased, with a total of 18,811 patients. Among them, 3,560 patients are in intensive care. In 24 hours, 111 people succumbed to the virus, bringing the total death toll to 123,851.
