The second booster dose has been administered to 325,000 people aged at least 80 years. It is time for the fourth dose for 500,000 people aged at least 60 years.
All seniors will be able to request it, provided they received their first booster at least 6 months ago.
This new booster “reduces the risk of hospitalization, intensive care, and death by 80%,” stated Olivier Veran, Minister of Health, “even though this risk is less significant” thanks to triple vaccination and the reduced virulence of the Omicron variant.
On the other hand, first-dose vaccinations “are at a standstill,” he acknowledged (around 1,500 per day), without much concern, since 80.5% of the French population has been vaccinated at least once.
