Following a bicycle-taxi control operation that took place this Wednesday in Nice, 11 bicycle-taxis were impounded, and fines for traffic violations were issued to the drivers.
Behind the operation is the hand of Christian Estrosi, who for some time now has been targeting this “illegal commercial activity on public property” and who intends to regulate it to prevent misconduct by some drivers, apparently organized by an opaque network, to the detriment of tourists.
In the name of commercial freedom, the prefect of Alpes-Maritimes had rejected in mid-September the decision of the Nice city council, which sought to regulate this activity.
Christian Estrosi responded with satisfaction: “With this joint operation, the State is also demonstrating its determination to enforce the law.”
He took the opportunity to announce that “A regulation procedure should allow for the organization and cleaning up of this activity in the coming weeks.”
