The creation of this class in the City of Nice, in consultation with the Academic Directorate of the Departmental Services of National Education, has been approved.
On this matter, the Mayor of Nice expressed his delight: “As an integral part of our world heritage, it is our duty to save regional languages, which form the foundation of our cultures. The aim of this class is to promote, very early on in children, the development of their intellectual, linguistic, and cultural capacities while allowing for the preservation and transmission of our regional language.”
A similar sentiment is shared by Eric Ciotti, president of the General Council: “I am pleased with the achievement of this Niรงois educational project, which represents the transmission of Niรงois culture and traditions to children from a very young age.”
The Vice-President of the Regional Council, Patrick Allemand, also expressed his satisfaction: “This is the culmination of a two-year effort that I have supported and participated in with all the lovers of the Niรงois language who are committed to keeping this language alive in future generations.”
The bilingual Franco-Niรงois class will be opened from the start of the 2013 September term, within the Les Orangers preschool located at 86 boulevard Pape Jean XXIII. Two levels of education are concerned: the small and medium sections.
The compulsory lessons will be conducted half in French and half in Niรงois.
For students coming from schools in Nice, registration for this class can be done outside the designated area without exemption, subject to a favorable opinion from the commission that will be responsible for examining applications (criteria to be determined). The number of places is limited to 29 students.
Once registration is confirmed, it will indicate a commitment to follow these lessons under the same parity conditions (French-Niรงois) in the higher levels of the students’ educational path. The National Education, on its part, will ensure compliance with pedagogical continuity.
