Creation of the Claude Pompidou Institute for Alzheimer’s Patients in Nice

Latest News

Since September 26, 2008, the project was still under study even though the construction of such a center had already been decided. This initiative to create the Claude Pompidou Institute was taken jointly with the state by Christian Estrosi, Minister of Industry and Mayor of Nice, who was at the time President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes. Today, it is his successor, Eric Ciotti, who has definitively adopted this project.

For the President of the General Council, Eric Ciotti, “the creation of this establishment will enable us to better cope with the consequences of Alzheimer’s disease which obviously affects those who suffer from it but also their relatives.” A facility wanted by the Mayor of Nice but whose project might not have succeeded without the collaborative work between the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, the Claude Pompidou Foundation, the DDASS, the Nice University Hospital, and the French Mutualité Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur.

Thanks to this teamwork, the Claude Pompidou Institute will open its doors in 2011. It will have a capacity of 68 beds for dependent elderly people receiving social aid. 4 temporary accommodation beds will be provided for people with Alzheimer’s or a related disorder who do not receive social aid.
The project will finally be completed by the transfer of 19 day-care places for people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or similar disorders. A day care currently managed by the Alzheimer Côte d’Azur association.
