For nearly 30 years, the Crédit Mutuel Foundation for Reading and Crédit Mutuel Méditerranéen have supported projects for the prevention and fight against illiteracy.
To encourage associations working in this field, the regional cooperative bank is launching for the 14th consecutive year the “Prevent and Fight Against Illiteracy” contest.
This contest is open to associations based in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Languedoc-Roussillon, and Corsica. Thirteen associations will share the €18,000 prize fund.
The preventive actions against illiteracy target children and young people (up to 16 years old). They also aim to bring parents who are distant from written culture and basic literacy skills closer, so they can pass on the love of reading to their children and support them in their education.
The actions to combat illiteracy are aimed at adults who have been schooled in France. They enable each person to acquire or reacquire the basic skills necessary for simple daily tasks, to become more independent in their family, professional, and civic life.
The jury meeting will take place in June, with the presence of 13 members (elected officials from CMM, librarians, business leaders, journalists, teachers, association managers…).
The award ceremony will be on September 11 in Nice, at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Mamac), during the tenth edition of the “Illiteracy Forum,” organized by Crédit Mutuel Méditerranéen.
