Has Nice become a major player in global cultural tourism? The answer is yes if we look at the numbers: after the success of the “A Summer for Matisse” exhibition in 2013, when 260,000 visitors were recorded, this summer’s exhibition, “Nice 2015, Promenade(s) des Anglais,” achieved a similar result.
By coincidence, the same number of art lovers passed through the gates of Nice’s 13 museums and galleries.
It should be noted that the General Commissioner was, on both occasions, Jean-Jacques Aillagon, former Minister of Culture, President of the Pompidou Center, and the Chรขteau de Versailles.
An appointment that alone explains the quality of the titles and the organization of these two major cultural events.
Therefore, with the satisfaction of a difficult bet won, Christian Estrosi thanked the teams, gathered at Villa Massรฉna, who worked, often behind the scenes, for the success of this exhibition.
More than 200 people participated, from the Deputy General Director of Culture Olivier-Henri Sambucchi to the very last agent.
One success adding to another, Nice is now able to produce cultural events of international renown.
We eagerly await the title of the 2017 exhibition.
On this occasion, the Mayor of Nice formalized the submission of the “Promenade des Anglais” to UNESCO for recognition as a heritage site, with the same Jean-Jacques Aillagon as president of the ad hoc committee.
The application will follow the expected process for deliberation in 2017.
