Curfew moved to 6 PM in the Alpes-Maritimes starting this Saturday.

The prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, in accordance with the Prime Ministerโ€™s instructions, issued an order today setting the start of the curfew at 6 PM throughout the department starting Saturday, January 2, 2021. As a reminder, the end time of the curfew remains unchanged and is still set at 6 AM.

Indeed, the Alpes-Maritimes is one of the departments affected by new restrictive measures because its incidence and hospitalization rates are among the highest.

The rate of incidence is the issue: it is 295 per 100,000 inhabitants in Alpes-Maritimes and 262 per 100,000 inhabitants in Hautes-Alpes, according to Santรฉ Publique France, for the week of December 22 to December 28. This rate is 124 nationally.

The mayor of Nice supports the idea of an early curfew: “everyone was aware that imposing a lockdown, where we could have an early curfew at 6 PM, was the right formula.”

Due to the evolution of the health situation, the Alpes-Maritimes department is placed under a 6 PM to 6 AM curfew starting Saturday, January 2.

Those who violate the curfew may face a fine of โ‚ฌ135, increased in case of repeat offenses.

This measure does not have unanimous support among local elected officials on the French Riviera. For David Lisnard, president of the Cannes Pays de Lรฉrins agglomeration, Charles Ange Ginรฉsy, president of the departmental council, Jean Leonetti, mayor of Antibes and president of the Sophia Antipolis agglomeration, and Jรฉrรดme Viaud, president of the Pays de Grasse agglomeration, it is a “pointless measure against COVID-19 and even more destructive to the economy.”

Together with @davidlisnard, @JeanLeonetti, and @JeromeViaud, we are asking the government to abandon the 6 PM curfew and request that decisions be regionalized and take territoriality into account.
