At the end of a week of racing, the 76th edition of Paris-Nice was decided by a few seconds difference. Just like in the previous two years.
The final stage, 110 kilometers long, designed around Nice and contested under heavy rain, lived up to all its promises.
With eight riders classified within the same minute, there was still uncertainty.
And Marc Soler, the young Spaniard who was trailing by 37 seconds at the morning of the stage, took on the role of the main instigator by attacking 50 kilometers from the finish, on the Peille climb.
An audacious move that paid off because by taking third place in the stage, the Movistar rider managed to win the overall classification, by just 4 seconds ahead of Simon Yates, the yellow jersey in the morning of the stage.
A minimal gap in favor of Soler, who finished third on the day behind David De la Cruz (Sky) and Omar Fraile (Astana), his two breakaway companions who contested the stage victory, which went to De la Cruz.
