It is to the sound of feverish salsa and flamboyant brass that Dany Brillant energetically heads, escorted by a barrage of invigorating percussion, toward the milestone of 25 years in his career. A quarter of a century after his beginnings in the Parisian neighborhood of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, which he holds dear, the most radiant of French singers returns, two years after his acclaimed album of covers (Histoire d’un amour), with his latest work, Puerto Rico.
“Salsa is the rhythm that gives life, that transmits the joy of existence.” It’s no surprise he felt the desire to return, not to Havana this time, but to the other capital of salsa: Puerto Rico. “It was born in Cuba, but Puerto Rico modernized it,” he explains. They say that Puerto Rico and Havana are the two wings of the same bird, which is the hottest music on the planet: salsa.”
