But for the moment, the most publicized doctor is taking a few months off. And for what reason? David Brecourt is returning to the stage to play in “The Game of Truth” where he performs the role of a family man who is out of his element.
The theater… back to his beginnings : it must be said that he started at the age of 12 in a play by Montherlant. Yes, David Brecourt has a 29-year career: theater, television, or cinema: Actor or Comedian?
Meeting with David Brecourt, a discreet man who loves his job.
Nice-Premiรจre: You played in a TV movie titled “Alert in Paris: The Rat Invasion” broadcasted on TF1 where you portray a doctor. This isnโt the first time we’ve seen you in a lab coat, is it?
David Brecourt: Indeed. But it was a different doctor, a different story. (Smile) In fact, I didnโt have much choice. When something is offered to me, I do it.
N-P: Was it complicated to shoot with rats?
D.B.: Yes. It wasn’t easy.
N-P: Especially at the end?
D.B.: When I get eaten. That was a day I didnโt really enjoy. It was very tough to shoot. It’s not a very good memory.
N-P: Were there any good memories at all?
D.B.: Yes, the whole shoot was amazing with the superb director. I loved working with Charlotte Brandstrรถm. Shooting in Prague, moreover, a sublime city that I had not known. It was great.
N-P: David Brecourd, viewers know you rather as Baptiste Mondino the famous doctor from “Under the Sun”. Isnโt playing a recurring role constricting?
D.B.: No, you shouldn’t do too much. I think thatโs the only recurrence, so to speak, that I will do in my career. Living for eight years alongside a character, I would not do it again. I want to do different things all the time.
N-P: Specifically, holding the role of the Doctor for eight years, what has it taught you?
D.B.: We learned things from each other. He taught me plenty: how to act, to get involved, to cry, to laugh…
N-P: The first scene that comes to mind when I say “Under the Sun”, which one is it?
D.B.: The fact of having shot with Tonya Kinzinger, the one who plays my wife. I have a passion for this girl. We get along super well. When you mention “Under the Sun”, she is the one who comes to mind.
N-P: Would you like to play a slightly more nuanced role?
D.B.: I just wish the networks would trust me a bit more and give me something a bit more substantial. I’m ready. But what? I really don’t know. At the same time, I’m not chasing after television because I’m playing in theater right now and everything is going well.
N-P: Speaking of which, what play are you performing in right now?
D.B.: We are playing “The Game of Truth” with Philippe Lellouche, Vanessa Demouy, and Christian Vadim. We have been playing in Paris for a year and a half. We go on tour in September, and we are making the movie in May for the cinema.
N-P: Will you be coming to the region?
D.B.: Yes, we play in Monaco from February 1 to 5, 2007. We also perform in Cavalaire, Toulon, Cannes… many cities on the Coast.
N-P: The French Riviera is a place that holds a special place in your heart?
D.B.: It is a place where very important things have always happened to me since my childhood. I believe I was even conceived here by my parents. (Smiles) There have been joys, dramas… It’s curious. I have been coming here for 20 years, not just for “Under the Sun”, I have a daughter who is 21, her mother lives in Eze village. I stayed there for 7 years. I know the area very well. There is an affiliation. I am attached to here. Clearly.
N-P: If David Brรฉcourt was a character from a series, which would he be?
D.B.: Amicalement Votre (“The Persuaders”).
N-P: Which of the two?
D.B.: Well, Brett Sinclair of course.
N-P: A series to recommend for the summer?
D.B.: Well, the reruns of “Under the Sun” for example (smiles).
N-P: What question would you like to be asked?
D.B.: None.
N-P: So let’s end it here, if I say “First or Premiere” what or who do you think of?
D.B.: Theater premiere.
