Following the mayors’ vote, it is ultimately the mayor of Cannes who has been elected to chair the Association of Mayors of France, succeeding Franรงois Baroin.

He obtained nearly 62% of the votes, that is, 6,913 out of 11,577 ballots cast by the more than 34,000 members of the association, indicated the Electoral Commission during the 103rd mayors’ congress being held in Paris. David Lisnard was elected for a three-year term.

After the election of David Lisnard, the regional president Renaud Muselier, who had called for a vote in favor of Philippe Laurent, the UDI mayor of Sceaux, wanted to “acknowledge his democratic victory” through a statement. “After the election, unity is needed, and I hope that the AMF finds its operational, representative, and calm mode of functioning.”

A few weeks ago, the mayor of Cannes had left open the intention of running as a candidate in the 2022 presidential election, before withdrawing by arguing that “the conditions were not met.”

Now, with national visibility, he will be able to prepare for the 2027 deadline. His new position could be a good springboard to… gather the conditions!

The President of the department, Charles Ange Ginรฉsy, warmly congratulated David Lisnard on his election:

“I extend my sincere congratulations to David Lisnard for his splendid election as president of the Association of Mayors of France. All my best wishes for success accompany him in this new role for which his experience, great moral and intellectual rigor, and talent will be guarantees of full success. He will be, I am sure, the right man for the job.

A field-elected official, rooted in real life, pragmatic, and aware of citizens’ concrete concerns, David Lisnard has demonstrated since his first election on April 5, 2014, his total commitment to the people of Cannes. It is, in fact, by no means a coincidence that he was re-elected in 2020 with 88% of the votes cast.

Thanks to his excellent understanding of the municipal landscape, David Lisnard will be a trusted president, capable of defending the interests of local communities with the state and building relationships between elected officials. He will also represent them with unwavering determination, following the momentum set in motion by Franรงois Baroin since 2014.

He will be a unifying president, independent, driven by strong convictions without ever being dogmatic, always mindful of keeping the dialogue alive. In his wake, a pluralistic team, solely serving the general interest, will drive the AMF forward.”
