It is the death of a legend, a symbol. Of a renowned musician, an exceptional singer. Shahnmourh Vanirag Aznavourian, better known as Charles Aznavour, left us yesterday, Monday, October 1st, 2018, in Mouriès (Bouches-du-Rhône).

The great Charles has just written his name in the Pantheon of music. Over 1200 songs in seven different languages, performances in 94 countries, and more than 100 million records sold worldwide. In 1988, the American channel CNN and the Times hailed him as the “Most Important Pop Singer of the 20th Century,” ahead of Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, and even Elvis Presley. An icon of song, Charles Aznavour was a global star, even earning his star on the “Walk of Fame” in Hollywood in 2017.

Born in Paris in 1924 to Armenian parents from Turkey and Georgia, Charles Aznavour was the idol of a new generation, notably from immigrant backgrounds. Without ever denying his French culture, Aznavour obtained Armenian nationality in 2008, and he continuously represented it on the international stage.

Seventy years of a career at the top for this legend of French song. He recently returned from a tour in Japan after being forced to cancel concerts this summer due to a fractured arm from a fall.
