“It is with great sorrow that we learn of the passing of Mrs. Claude Pompidou, wife of the late President of the Republic, and president of the Pompidou Foundation.
This admirable woman dedicated much of her life to the most vulnerable people by creating, as early as 1970, the Pompidou Foundation for disabled children, the elderly, and hospitalized patients.
In this capacity, Mrs. Claude Pompidou was honored as ‘Woman of the Year’ on October 14, 2005, during the Woman’s Gala organized by the city of Nice with the assistance of the Nice Presence association to serve the humanitarian cause.
With the support of her Foundation, the city of Nice and the University Hospital of Nice were able to establish the Orangers Reception Center for the care of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. This initiative was to be soon complemented by the Institute for Research and Care dedicated to Alzheimerโs disease at the Dabray Foundation site. I regret that Mrs. Pompidou, who was passionate about this new project, is no longer here to witness its completion.
Mrs. Pompidou had also agreed to lend her support to the association ‘pArtAges,’ which works to improve the quality of life for patients at the Cimiez hospital.
Through her actions for the city of Nice as well as her charisma and great human qualities, Mrs. Pompidou earned our recognition and admiration and was truly considered a friend.
In these painful circumstances, on behalf of the people of Nice, the Nice City Council, and personally and on behalf of my wife, I wish to express to Professor Alain Pompidou, to his entire family, and to all the members of the Claude Pompidou Foundation, our deep sadness and profound grief.”
