Raised to the dignity of Grand Officer of the National Order of Merit in 2018, General Jean-Luc Janin, honorary vice-president of the Alpes-Maritimes section of the society of members of the Legion of Honor, passed away at the age of 95.

Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, paid tribute: “I learn with sadness of the passing of General Jean-Luc Janin, Commandeur of the Legion of Honor and Grand Officer of the National Order of Merit, recently promoted to Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor, Honorary Vice-President of the Alpes-Maritimes section of the Society of Members of the Legion of Honor. Honorary President of the National Union of Combatants 06, he attended all patriotic ceremonies in Nice and the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. General Janin was an example of bravery. In 1943, he joined the French Army to take part in the Liberation of France… on his 18th birthday! What strength and courage already inhabited this young man still in high school. Values that never left him. Jean-Luc Janin concluded his career in 2002 as commander of the Army Light Aviation (ALAT) of the 2nd Army Corps in Germany, after 39 years of service. Upon his arrival in Nice, he engaged in the associative sector, notably with the Society for Mutual Aid of Members of the Legion of Honor. I extend my most sincere condolences to his family.”
