This renowned jurist, a lawyer at the Grasse bar, was a municipal councilor of Nice, delegated to Youth and Cultural Affairs from 1965 to 1971, Vice-President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, Vice President of the Regional Council of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, and Mayor of Grasse for 18 years.
Passionate about culture and an ardent defender of our department, Hervé De Fontmichel played a predominant role in the development of major projects in Nice, such as the National Dramatic Center, the Nice Theater, the Chagall Museum, or the Villa Arson, as well as in the restoration of the Palais Lascaris and the regionalization of the Music Conservatory.
This commitment, which he dedicated for years to the service of our department, led to his appointment to the Institut de France under the Academy of Fine Arts.
Reaction from Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice: “I extend my most sincere condolences to his family and all his loved ones.”
