By postponing the opening of ski resorts to January, if the health situation permits, the President of the Republic has unexpectedly—quite literally—triggered misunderstanding and anger among mountain professionals. The day before, the Prime Minister had promised a decision within “ten days.”
While the government is still expected to make its final decision, lift operators, accommodation providers, and other mountain stakeholders are denouncing the public authorities’ communication as being, to say the least, ambivalent.
Charles-Ange Ginésy, president of the Departmental Council where many resorts are located, is at the heart of the issue: “It’s a hard blow for our resorts that are ready to open and have been preparing for several days already to welcome seasonal workers and holiday-makers in the best conditions. I ask the President of the Republic to reconsider his position. Our resorts need to breathe; this is a crucial economic issue.”
