Boosted by the significant improvement in indicators, the incidence rate is now 192/100,000 after having exceeded the 500 mark for some time, with the number of people in intensive care being 71. The elected officials from the Côte d’Azur have pulled out the big guns to issue a sort of ultimatum to the government to hasten the easing of lockdown measures, with the publication of a sort of ten-point manifesto in which the word “immediately” appears several times.

The summer season is approaching, and tourism remains the primary attraction of the area, including businesses, restaurants, and hotels. It is therefore not a surprise that the voice of economic representatives has echoed that of the elected officials. The arguments remain the same: our businesses are at risk, we want to work and not rely on government aid. The refrain is well-known.

However, the government has decided that the return to normalcy will occur “in a necessarily cautious and gradual manner, based on the evolution of the health situation, possibly on a localized basis.” While the statement remains very general, it nonetheless confirms the possibility of a region-specific easing of lockdown measures.

So, it’s just a matter of replacing the word “immediately” with “patiently,” much to the chagrin of the Côte d’Azur decision-makers.
