John Paul II will be beatified in Rome on Sunday, May 1, 2011. This decision was officially announced last January by the Vatican after an investigation demonstrating the exemplary nature of John Paul II’s life, as well as the evidence of a miracle.
– The Polish community of Nice will pay tribute to the illustrious compatriot at 7:00 PM at Jean-Paul II Square in Cimiez with the laying of a wreath by Monsignor Sankalรฉ on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at 7:00 PM at Jean-Paul II Square in Cimiez.
– Speech followed by the laying of flowers and lanterns
in front of the monument bearing his name
– A religious service in the Polish language will be celebrated
at 7:30 PM at the Monastery of Cimiez
– Other events are organized by the Diocese of Nice for this occasion:
10:00 AM โ Sainte-Rรฉparate Cathedral: Dedication of the Cathedral in the presence of Monsignor Bishop Louis Sankalรฉ, followed by the inauguration of the “Blessed John Paul II Room”
4:00 PM โ Saint-Pierre dโArรจne Church: Reading of poems in honor of John Paul II.
– John Paul II, Pope from October 16, 1978, to April 2, 2005 โ one of the longest pontificates in the history of the Church โ was a bearer of universal values like love, respect, and fraternity. He has always strived to bring religions closer together, to work for the defense of human dignity, and to promote human rights. For this reason, he is considered one of the most influential leaders of the 20th century. A bust of Pope John Paul II, sovereign pontiff and head of state, was installed at the renamed Jean-Paul II Square, opposite the entrance to the Monastery of Cimiez, on Saturday, October 23, last year.
