Departmental 2015: The Socialists Take a Stand for the Second Round of Departmental Elections

Latest News

Heavily punished by voters in the first round, the socialists are appealing to voters for the few run-offs in the second round. Their goal? To secure at least one seat to be directly present in the next Departmental Council to block the National Front. A minimal objective, certainly, but in these times, one must know how to be content with itโ€ฆ

The first round of departmental elections is a bitter disappointment for the entire left in the Alpes-Maritimes. Faced with a dominant UMP and a stronger-than-elsewhere FN, only the union of all left-wing forces could have allowed resistance.

“This will be a lesson we must absolutely learn. For a real opposition to exist in the Departmental Council, we call for the mobilization of the entire left and all sincere Republicans behind Marie-Louise GOURDON and Jean-Raymond VINCIGUERRA, who are against the FN in the Grasse 2 district. We also call for votes for the left-wing pair, Valรฉrie TOMASINI and Francis TUJAGUE, still in contention in the Contes district.” explains Xavier GARCIA, the first federal secretary of the Alpes-Maritimes.

Regarding the other districts, the Socialist Party has always been uncompromising on republican principles and will be again on Sunday, March 29.

“We therefore call to block the National Front wherever there is a threat of a far-right candidate being elected.” The directive from the first federal member of the Cรดte d’Azur is commendably clear!

The Socialist Party naturally expects reciprocity from the UMP in the Grasse 2 district.
