The candidate for the 5th district of Nice, PRG Patrick Mottard, in full electoral campaign, does not abandon one of his favorite themes: the future of the Ray stadium, which remains one of the big question marks in the renovation of the northern districts of the city.
Unless everything has already been decided and we’re just waiting for the right moment to dish it out…
But let’s listen to what the outgoing general councilor of this district (officially until March 21) has to say:
“It is not since yesterday that we have been making proposals for the development of the Ray stadium grounds.
Our project titled “Ray Family Plain” is in line with the residents’ protest against concrete. It is also memorial, aligning with the battles for memory and heritage that we have always pursued (such as the classification of the Gare du Sud and the rescue of the Palais de l’agriculture).
Thus, we propose preserving the ticket office rotunda of the stadium. In my book “Cinq de coeur” published in 2010, I anticipated the reasons for this choice: “At the beginning of avenue Ernest Lairolle, the harmonious Art Deco duo of the delicately curved white facade of the Doucet artist’s house-studio and the unusual and immaculate rounded ticket offices of the Ray stadium pleases the eye.”
We also propose conserving the “Populaire Sud” stand, which was simply the soul of the stadium in its active time. Transforming this place of memory and shared emotions into an open-air theater will kill two birds with one stone.
It shows that the synthesis of the past and the future is possible with a little imagination and goodwill.”
Nicely said, but will it be heard?
