The departmental secretary Xavier Garcia has been re-elected by party members with an impressive score: 82% of the 251 voters expressed their support for him.
He represents a pragmatic political line, that of a governmental socialism.
His opponent, Dario Lutchmayah, follows a more “social” line.
These are frankly unnecessary particularisms in a party in a comatose state, very scattered (with a few leaders and the youth having migrated under the banner of Génération.s) and one that must practically start from scratch to regain a place in the local political context.
But optimism is the last to die: the newly elected – in his first statement – declared that “the priority is now to bring together all sensibilities.”
Addressing his opponent Dario Lutchmayah, he committed himself “to work in unity.”
