New call from the Socialist Party (PS) to the French Communist Party/Left Front (PCF/FdG) for joint lists in the departmental elections scheduled for March 22 and 29, 2015. This was the point of the press briefing by Xavier Garcia, the federal secretary of the Alpes-Maritimes, and Paul Cuturello, delegate for elections.
“The past has taught us that a united strategy would benefit everyone,” says Xavier Garcia, who even says he is ready to give up his candidacy in the 7th district of Nice, if necessary.
“My sole objective is political and not personal: A head-to-head between the UMP and the National Front is anticipated. However, the left still has the means to overturn this grim prediction, provided it unites its forces in all districts from the first round,” continues the newly elected party leader, whose first baptism of fire will be the departmental elections.
In the first round… That could well be the key to the entire action to achieve unified lists, avoid controversies and potentially create a dynamic among disillusioned and undecided voters.
Besides, the turnout is expected to be low, fluctuating between 30 and 40%, meaning that the votes will count above all in absolute value.
The conditions set by the communists (see the inset) are either tactical or seem more like provocation: Neither Xavier Garcia nor Patrick Allemand is in a position, as President of the Republic or Prime Minister, to change government policy, whether it’s right or not!
Moreover, the connection between the Mercantour Boulevard chamber and the Palais Bourbon is not very clear…
In fact, the situation is simple: if there are joint lists, there is a possibility for some left-wing candidates to join or rejoin the parliamentary assembly. Otherwise, the chances are non-existent or reduced to their strict minimum.
That’s it. Everyone must assume their choices and responsibilities.
