The new concept launched by the Riviera rendezvous of electronic music was a great success, with an attendance of 34,000 spectators over three dates in Cannes.
The 10th edition of Les Plages Électroniques concluded on the night of Sunday August 9 to Monday August 10 with the 6-hand set by the American group Visionquest during the afterparty organized at the Les Marches club.
A few hours earlier, at 12:30 am, on the beach, the historic playground of the festival, more than 9,000 festival-goers celebrated two anniversaries: ten years for “Plages Electro” and forty-one years for the German DJ and producer Loco Dice, whose performance was faithful to his reputation in every way.
Beyond the symbolic nature of this tenth anniversary, on Saturday August 8 and Sunday August 9, the Riviera festival entered a new era: a strong collaboration between the Panda Events agency and the Palais des Festivals & des Congrès allowed the creation of a second stage called “Terrace”; creation of a new VIP area, as part of a partnership with the Folie Douce team on the Majestic beach; numerous technological innovations (website, mobile app, cashless payment, iBeacon kiosks, etc.).
The audience, comprised of both the most loyal “beachers” and many newcomers attracted by a demanding yet mainstream lineup, discovered a new festival, “between sky and sea,” reflecting Cannes, its host territory.
By programming the artist The Avener, Les Plages Électroniques, considered essential by electronic music enthusiasts, have unquestionably become the flagship event of the Riviera summer and one of the largest beach parties in Europe.
For this 10th edition, Les Plages Électroniques hosted nearly 70 artists from Berlin, Paris, New York, Barcelona, Zurich, Düsseldorf, Detroit, and of course from the Côte d’Azur!
If there is one phenomenon to remember from this 2015 edition, it is undoubtedly the rise of Riviera artists to the firmament of the electronic scene: The Avener, Feder, Anthony Georges Patrice… Exiled to Paris for the sake of their careers, these hometown talents played on familiar ground, headlining for some on a stage they all dreamed of performing on as teenagers. A strong symbol for a festival that has always championed the place of local artists in its artistic direction.
There is no doubt that New Gang and Osmoz will very soon follow the same path, as they are already in demand outside the Riviera borders.
Among the many other highlights, special mention goes to the innate groove of The Martinez Brothers, the New York siblings, the magic and infectious good humor of the Elrow troupe, who came from Barcelona bringing all the Bollywood magic in their suitcases, the generosity of Feder, who danced as much as his audience, the visual escape of “Dunes,” a scenographic creation by the WSK and AV Exciters collectives that enchanted the terrace stage, the unique style of the Bromance label, represented by its most current ambassadors… and, of course, it is impossible to review this 2015 edition without once again mentioning the fervor created by our local pride, Tristan Casara aka The Avener.
A special mention for the great Loco Dice, his generosity, his mindset, his sense of deejaying, his continuous dialogue with the dance floor. Pure class.
A word also for those who were unable to enjoy the evening of August 8 under optimal conditions. Indeed, the production faced numerous unforeseen events of all kinds in carrying out the event. Therefore, it reiterates its sincerest regrets for the waiting and other difficulties encountered by part of the public and takes the feedback received into account to improve the functioning of the event.
