9 Muslim graves and a wall of the Muslim plot have just been vandalized in Carros with racist and political graffiti.
Through these inscriptions found on the graves (“Arabs out” and “Long live Le Pen”), the Muslim community becomes a victim of racism.
The stigmatizing and sometimes hateful words legitimize the transition from speech to racist action. As an old American saying goes: “When you throw the shit in the fan, you don’t know who will get splattered!” Therefore, we are happy to publish the statements of various local political parties, unanimously condemning these acts.
It would be wise to stop meddling as amateur sorcerers. Politics is something else.
The Federation of the Socialist Party of the Alpes-Maritimes condemns with the utmost firmness the desecration of graves and the racist graffiti in the Muslim plot of the Carros cemetery.
These acts are heinous and are the symptoms of the rotten climate at the end of this presidential campaign.
When elected officials of the Republic multiply hate-filled statements that stigmatize immigration, they indirectly encourage this type of provocation and bear moral responsibility.
The PS Federation assures the Muslim community of the Alpes-Maritimes of its support during this painful ordeal.
Patrick Allemand, Federal Secretary of the Socialist Party of the A-M
Christian Estrosi, dismayed by these unworthy and indefinable acts
“I learned with astonishment about the vandalism of nine graves and a wall of the Muslim plot in Carros.
These acts, intolerable and unworthy on the territory of the Nice Cรดte dโAzur Metropolis and the French Republic, inspire in me a feeling of anger. This is an unacceptable outrage, and I wish to firmly condemn it. Racist inscriptions and grave desecrations are a serious affront to human dignity, respect for the deceased, and freedom of conscience.
Incitement to hatred and desecration of graves, regardless of the religion concerned, is intolerable, and I have immediately expressed my indignation to the Vice-President of the Regional Council of the Muslim Faith.
I have specifically requested Antoine Damiani, Vice-President of the Nice Cรดte dโAzur Metropolis and Mayor of Carros, to express the Metropolis’ support to all the families affected by this tragedy and to the entire Muslim community.
I want everything possible to be done so that the perpetrators are quickly identified and punished.
On behalf of the Nice Cรดte dโAzur Metropolis, I would like to express to the families affected, in their dignity, all my profound solidarity.”
-Eric Ciotti denounces “odious, cowardly, and contemptible acts”
“I have learned, with consternation, that graves in a Muslim plot were desecrated in Carros.
These are odious, cowardly, and contemptible acts, and I wish to condemn them firmly. Our department has always been a land of tolerance where women and men, regardless of their origins or religions, have been respected.
I also wish that these acts do not go unpunished and that the perpetrators are found and condemned.
I send a message of sympathy to the Muslim community of the Alpes-Maritimes, rightly shocked by these damages, and I assure it of all my sympathy.”
Eric Ciotti, President of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes
The National Front deputies of the Alpes-Maritimes deplore the events at the Carros cemetery: desecrations of graves, utterly stupid inscriptions…
Coincidentally, this happens between the two rounds of the presidential elections and in one of the 53 municipalities where the National Front achieved its best scores.
The voters and militants of our Movement, being highly courted by the two candidates in the running and at the center of the political debates of this interval, would not be foolish enough to commit such misdeeds, so detrimental to our Movement in full expansion.
This could indeed be the remotely controlled work of any adversary of the National Front… Indeed, who would benefit from such a crime a few weeks before the legislative elections?
Carpentras still echoes in our memories, and what just happened in Carros seems to be another provocation. So let’s allow the investigation to run its course… The truth, as with Carpentras, will come out one day, and let us not be taken in by such heinous manipulations.
Lydia Schenardi, Departmental Secretary and the regional councilors FN of the Alpes Maritimes
Unworthy desecration in Carros!
The federation of the Alpes-Maritimes of the Communist Party solemnly condemns these heinous, infamous, and racist acts.
The perpetrators of these offenses demonstrate not only ignominy but also deep cowardice.
In a context of extreme tension and division in our society, often fueled by the words of certain political leaders, it is essential that everything be done to find the perpetrators of these infamies.
We offer all our support and compassion to the Harki and Muslim families who have suffered these attacks.
We remain convinced that in such moments, peace, fraternity, equality, and freedom are more relevant than ever.
Cรฉcile Dumas, Secretary of the PCF O6
The Harki cemetery of Carros housing the Muslim plot was desecrated, and racist and political graffiti was inscribed on the walls, with swastikas drawn on the graves.
We express our solidarity and compassion toward the families who suffered from this ignominy. We stand by the Harkis and Muslims during this painful time. In response to this cowardly tactic that attacks graves where the dead aspire to peace and should not be an object of political conflict, in the face of actions that inflict violence upon a peaceful community, we express our sympathetic indignation.
We solemnly condemn these heinous, vile, and infamous acts. They completely disqualify their authors, and we call upon the authorities to uncover the perpetrators.
We trust the families and the Muslim community of Carros and our Canton to demonstrate responsibility and refuse to respond to this lowly and sordid provocation.
The communist and republican elected officials of the Canton of Carros.
